Suburban Tool’s “in-house” engineering department leads the industry by providing
the highest quality design/engineering services available to our manufacturing department and customers.
We specialize in creating unique and innovative designs that produce maximum results for our customers.
Our commitment to quality and productivity begins with the initial design, which continues through
manufacturing and the initial part sampling.
Technology:
At Suburban, we realize and understand that quality and productivity begins with the latest advancements
in technology. Our design engineers use the most modern computer systems and software such as Pro/Engineer to
design entire molds/dies as three-dimensional solid models and assemblies. With this technology,
we can design a mold using a variety of part data ranging from a simple concept sketch, up to a
three-dimensional design surface or solid model.
The manufacturing department uses our three-dimensional solid models and two-dimensional drawings
to cut steel using CAM (Computer Aided Machining) software such as: Pro/Engineer, Mastercam,
and Hurco Ultimax PC. This technology helps us to reduce lead times through concurrent
design and manufacturing practices.
Design Practices:
Our Engineering Department understands the difficulties and impediments
in creating an exceptional design. We have systems in place that help us achieve a world-class
design, which also helps us to meet or exceed our customer's expectations. Some of our current
design practices include:
-
We gather information from our customers early in the design
process, which helps us design the best possible mold that will maximize our
customer’s production
requirements.
-
We maintain a constant level of communication with our customers throughout
the entire design process, so our customers feel at ease about the project they have entrusted to Suburban.
-
If required, we will do a flow analysis on the part to determine the best
runner/gating size and location that will maximize production.
-
Our designers use industry standard off the shelf components in
the molds we design whenever possible.
-
Before
cutting steel, we review the design with our customers.
-
We have multiple levels of quality control from engineering to
manufacturing that helps us design and build quality performance based molds.
-
We work with our customers’ design and
manufacturing standards when directed.
Key Features:
-
Our design staff has over 90 years of combined mold design experience.
- A few of our designers have various college degrees ranging from Mechanical Engineering to Plastics Engineering.
- A couple of our designers have spent time as toolmakers on the floor before
transferring into design engineering positions.
- We have a Customer Access internet site to speed up file transfers between our engineers and our customers.
- We work well with all types of file translations and are skilled at repairing imported models
if needed.
- Our experience helps us to foresee moldability and processing issues during tool design.
Our customers understand and appreciate how this has reduced de-bug time, allowing earlier
PPAP and production.
- Engineering and Manufacturing work together to continuously improve lead times, and ensure
on-time deliveries.
